After over a year of research into hamsters nutritional needs, I decided to create my own hamster food mix due to most commercial hamster foods not having much variety and often not meeting our hamsters nutritional needs. Made with over 50 natural, whole ingredients, my premium hamster food mix provides true variety for any Syrian hamster; unlike most commercial hamster foods which usually contain 5-15.

Feed ~ 1 tablespoon per day. I also suggest feeding a forage mix and fresh vegetables at least once a week.

To encourage natural foraging behaviours I recommend scatter feeding your food rather than feeding exclusively in a bowl. In my experience this is also one of the best ways to tackle boredom and can keep your hamster busy for hours.

GA:
19.61% protein
9.43% fat*
10.94% fibre

Ingredients;
Buckwheat, mixed seeds, oat groats, mixed millet (panicum millet, Japanese millet, red millet, white millet), roasted edamame, barley, wheat, red sorghum, flaked soya, dried gammarus/soya protein, peanuts, dried carrot, dried beetroot, dried spinach, dried parsnip, dried bell pepper, flax seed, pumpkin seed, jumbo flaked oats, cracked maize, rye, spelt, mung beans, brown lentils, freeze dried chicken, dried courgette, dried pumpkin, burdock root, dandelion root, sunflower seeds, hemp seed, safflower seeds, walnuts, quinoa, puffed millet, puffed quinoa, green split peas, chickpeas, mealworms, calciworms, basil, parsley, peppermint, lemon balm, dandelion leaves, chickweed, plantain leaves, rose petals, calendula, sunflower petals, cornflower, echinacea, green oats.

*This food is not fortified, meaning no extra micronutrients have been added, nor have they been calculated for this mix. It is common understanding that this is not necessary in a mix with high variety (much like in our own diet, where we do not calculate each nutrient, but instead eat a variety of foods to provide us with all needed nutrients.) However if you do not feel comfortable with this, you can choose to feed pellets (i.e. fortified food) alongside - I recommend adding about 50g of pellets to a 250g bag or 100g for a 500g bag.*

*The fat content in homemade mixes needs to be higher as the ingredients are unprocessed and harder to break down, meaning the fat will get digested at a slower rate and won't all be absorbed - this best mimics your small pets natural diet. In commercial mixes, the fats usually come from processed sources, which means that it is digested more quickly - which is why they typically have a lower fat content.
